Indian summer

Our workshop in India is running at full speed, as the long-awaited basket order has arrived! Our women are rolling up their sleeves to make 10 000 baskets out of woven saree fabric. Something they are very happy about!

Some new faces

Early this year, the team was reinforced by an HR manager and a production assistant. Kushbu is now Ebha's right-hand woman and Sushrita puts her communication expertise to use, in making sure everyone in the company feels happy and that processes are streamlined. And also our new stock-keeper JB might be a new face to many of you.

We also got a lot of visitors in Paces over the past few months! Fashion designer Liesbeth, who designed some of our products, like the beach bag, went to visit the workshop for a four week technical training in the sewing department! UK Volunteer Bee, who wanted a taste of India, after volunteering in Thailand, spend a few months with us in Ranchi, strengthening the team with her fashion and communication skills. Céline got to go to India at the same time, to prepare the team for their first audit from WFTO.

Application WFTO label

Yes! Since 2022, Solid has started applying for the WFTO label, for all workshops, not only Peru, to translate the fair approach that’s in our DNA, into a label that is widely known and that hopefully also helps our customers tell our story even louder.

But truth has to be told, it was stressfull, to have this multi-day audit, where every stone was turned over! We passed the test with flying colours and are waiting for the final approval!

Liesbeth caught her heart in India, feeling like a fish in the water. She built a fine connection with the team and the artisans, despite some language barriers, and technical questions that initially came with shyness, flowed out towards the end of her visit. She left with the hope of returning soon, to build on her initial insights and empower the women further in their skill. To lift everyone and the production to the next level!

And that’s where we can use your help! Do you believe employment is the way to lift women out of poverty? By strengthening their skills, they are at the helm of their change and they can be proud of that!

With € 5OOO, we can send Liesbeth to India for another advanced sewing training.
